My deep thoughts in the shower this morning were about the parallels between the story of Christ’s resurrection and the wheel of the year. Pagan and agricultural societies began to celebrate the return of the light symbolized by the sun at Winter Solstice and continue to observe it through Candlemas, or Imbolc, all the way through to Spring Solstice and Ostara. Christians begin at Christmas with Christ symbolizing the return of the light and celebrate again at Easter with not a whole lot of observances in between. In essence, both are celebrating the same thing.
A favorite pagan chant is:
“Hoof and horn, hoof and horn
All that dies shall be reborn
Vine and grain, vine and grain
All that falls shall rise again.”
The earth celebrates the resurrection with the beauty of spring. Life that has gone dormant during the winter rises again at spring, and many plants even increase their numbers by multiplying and spreading from the year before. This year, nature has also surrounded the Solstice with new and full moon cycles as well. Both Ostara and Christ’s resurrection symbolize the rebirth of the spirit and renewed faith.
I’m always reflective at this time of year, but this year is especially significant. I’ve let go of things that I should have let go a long time ago and have made some major changes. There’s still a lot of cleaning up to do but I’m grateful for the chance to begin yet again and to those who have been there for me. I now more opportunities to resurrect my life into a pretty good representation of what I want in my heart and a career that adapts to my physical capabilities. I started to write “diminished physical capabilities” and stopped. I no longer see it that way. Instead, I see that what I’m physically capable of has simply changed and I need to adapt to these changes.
Have you given much thought to the changes you’d like to make this year? How does it apply to your business? Do you feel a need to undergo a complete death and rebirth or to adapt to what you’ve recently begun? Do you expect what you planted last year to spread and multiply, or do you need to weed some of it out?
Whichever holiday you celebrate at this time, I wish you all the blessings that nature and spirit can bring to support you in realizing your heart’s desire.
