Dreams, Visions and Reality

“To fulfill a dream, to be allowed to sweat over lonely labor, to be given the chance to create is the meat and potatoes of life” ~ Miss Bette Davis

Miss Come And Go As She Pleases July 31, 2009

I’m in awe that this blog has been viewed today after being neglected for so long for various reasons. Health has been an ongoing issue and things are a bit precarious right now, but with no insurance, there are no answers. My doc has gotten me on to a waiting list for a free colonoscopy but the program is out of money. They will hopefully receive funding in August. In the meantime, I’m in a fair, sometimes severe, amount of pain on a daily basis in addition to the chronic stuff I’ve been living with for 20 years. It doesn’t respond to anything and she doesn’t have a clue what to give me without further testing. The possibilities are an ulcer, ulcerative colitis, polyps or colon cancer.  I’m determined to hang in there. While I’d love to be free of this body, I’ve realized that I have a lot to live for.  I’ve chosen to accept my chronic conditions and adapt my life to them. The universe finally seems to be supporting me in this. The good news is that my bloodwork came back okay. Last year my cell count was off and they were looking at leukemia. My cholesterol was also high and it’s great now.  That might have something to do with taking omega-3 fish oils for the past year. My Lab-Shepherd takes it with me, it’s hilarious. She loves it!

I also owe WordPress a huge thank you. I didn’t know until yesterday that they had suspended my blog because I violated their TOS. They didn’t have to, but they’ve allowed me to clean up my act and keep my blog. I’ve recently found my a way that I can have an income and have time for my writing and art, so my plan is to get a paid blog in the near future for that business. Due to their kindness, WordPress is my number one choice.

I’m also glad it happened because I’ve wanted to clean this one up for a long time. It did get messy while I was on my “do what you love and the money will follow” quest. I do believe I’ve found the right direction and I want to do everything right, including repaying people who have helped me along the way and paying it forward to someone else.

So, the focus of this blog hasn’t really changed much. It’s just going to be more organized and truly focused on bringing you news and resources in the areas of wire and bead jewelry, polymer clay and empowerment in small business. I’m sure that I won’t be able to stay completely away from throwing in a few rants and personal reflections but I’ll keep ‘em to a minimum.

I’ll add a fresh post tomorrow on the latest in jewelry making contests. In the meantime, please visit my Squidoo, which I’m also updating frequently:

The good news is that all 12 of them are above 100,000 in the rankings, none below 70,000 in fact – pretty good for a site that has over 800,000 lenses.

Fearless Friday – Regina @ Margarita Bloom July 14, 2008

I apologize for my tardiness on getting this one posted, which should have been done last Friday, July 11th. The week had gotten away from both me and Regina! and I got tied up working on my new sister site, Possibilities by Parthena. When I was ready, I had trouble opening the attachments she sent for the interview. Zip995 gave them up just when I was about to send an SOS!

I love everything about Regina and her business, Margarita Bloom. Her passion and enthusiasm show through in everything she does, from her personality to her website. She’s classy and fabulous! I go to her iEmporium profile just to listen to her wonderful playlist! I appreciate her taking the time to provide this wonderful interview and sharing how she created her amazing business. Please take the time to visit her site and sign up for updates and specials so that you can be a Margarita Bloom girl, too!

Enjoy, and please join me in wishing Regina continued business growth and success!

How were you inspired to create your business?

I always knew from a very small age that I wanted to have my own business. It wasn’t until I got my very first computer that I was able to see the wonderful world of the internet and what I could accomplish with it. I discovered this entire world of bath and body products and that I could actually have my very own shop online. I learned how to create a website and from there Margarita Bloom was born. My passion really is bath and body goodies and every day is a new experience with a new product or new fragrance oil that gets me excited all over again!

How did you come up with your business name?

I was inspired from a couple quotes by Coco Chanel….“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” and “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
    ~ Coco Chanel.

I knew that I needed a name that was somehow very original but yet was something that everybody knew & of course it had to be classy and very fabulous.

It all started with the word bloom…it sounded fresh and cute….and then it hit me….Margarita Bloom….the modern girl. It was perfect. Everybody knew what a margarita was and put the two together and you got the name of a girl that loves to spice up her bath routine with lots of retro fun…the modern girl for bath and body was born! Margarita Bloom! She’s a gorgeous gal with a bit of a modern yet 1950’s flair. She loves beautiful goodies and smelling oh, so nice! nothing but the best for a Margarita Bloom girl.

How did you choose your products?

I basically pick them based on what I would love to use myself. Favorite scents, favorite products, wonderful ingredients….every product in our store is something that I personally would love to use.

How did you fund your business?

I had my family for support and of course saved, saved, saved. Lol…

What types of advertising methods have you used? What works best?

I’ve done a lot of inexpensive budget advertising but mostly word of mouth which seems to work best in answer to your other question. Getting out there and talking to the people who are your customers and clients; introducing your company to them, telling about what you have to offer really seems to be the best way at least for me!

Do you do more marketing online or locally? Which generates the most sales?

I’d have to say online. It’s really allowed me to reach people I never would have been able to reach otherwise.

Does you business fit well with your family and personal life? Is your family supportive?

Yes, of course. My family has always encouraged me to follow my dreams and is even as excited as I am!

Who is your support network outside of family? Do you have a website? Blog?

Truly I would have to say all these wonderful groups I belong to and all the new friends I’ve made along the way of growing my business. They really seem to encourage me and are genuinely excited about MB.

Our website is http://www.margarita-bloom.com and our blog http://www.margaritabloom888.blogspot.com You can even sign up for our specials on our home page too for all those Margarita Bloom girls out there!

What advice do you have for other women starting their own businesses?

I know it sounds cliché, but really follow your dreams. Find your passion and go for it. Don’t be swayed by anybody else telling you, you can’t do it. If it’s something that you really…really, really love your excitement will flow over and spill onto all the people that your company touches and they’ll be just as excited as you and in return your company will prosper. :D

Fearless Friday – Vintage Body Spa, LLC June 27, 2008

Fearless Fridays are rolling around so quickly these days! Our treat this week is Alyssa Middleton of Vintage Body Spa, LLC and the timing couldn’t be better. Alyssa just found out that one of her products was accepted for inclusion into the Femail Creations/Barefoot Parties Holiday Catalog! Alyssa’s interview covers all of the issues that we’re all experiencing and are concerned with.  She’s been very honest and thorough – I forgot to tell her that she didn’t have to answer all of the questions!

Please join me in thanking her for sharing her expertise and toasting to her continued success!

How were you inspired to create your own business?

I wish I could claim that I created Vintage Body Spa. In actuality, it was started in 2005, and I purchased the company in September 2007. My daughter was diagnosed with eczema when she was an infant, and I had been searching online for natural products to use on her skin. I came across Vintage Body Spa, loved the formulas and learned that the company was for sale. I fully believe that it was a Divine encounter, as everything fell into place very easily, and I took over ownership in 2007.

I had made bath & body products, candles and soaps as a hobby years prior, and loved creating new items and giving them as gifts. Purchasing Vintage Body Spa enabled me to turn that hobby into a business and work from home while raising our daughter.

Did you have role models in your immediate family or mentors who supported you?

My grandparents had their own woodworking business, and my mother has had her own business as a seamstress since before I was born. Growing up, I loved to watch them create things from scratch and seeing their pride in a job well done. It was a blessing for my mom to be at home with her kids and have the flexibility in her schedule to attend all of our events and activities. I’m convinced that is why we’re still so close today. I want to be there like that for my daughter as she grows.

How did you choose your product?

Some of the product formulas are from the original owner. They’re great formulas, and they have a loyal following, so there was no need to change them. Then I looked at the current offerings and made a list of what was missing – other items that could be added to help to create an indulgent spa experience at home – and have been working off of that list. Formulas go through a lot of testing with my family and me before they are ever sent to my tester panel – men and women of different ages, skin types, etc. I collect comments and feedback and make alterations and send out another round (or two, however many it takes) until the panel approves. Then the product is released to the public. We’ve released two products since purchasing Vintage Body Spa (massage oil and whipped shea butter) and I’m very excited to be releasing 5-6 additional products by the end of the summer, just in time for the holiday shopping season!

How did you fund your start-up?

I had a loan for the purchase of the business. When new supplies, packaging, etc is needed I reinvest profits rather than borrowing additional funds. This has meant that I haven’t been able to do all of the things I’d love to do with the business as quickly as I’d like, but it is very important to me to retire the debt. Besides, it’s a great motivator to keep pushing for more sales!

Did you have a business plan?

My business plan is an ever-changing document, as I learn more from women who have been down this path before me and are mentoring me. One of my goals for the summer is to sit down with a mentor and hammer out a formal business plan so that I can better track goals, successes and setbacks. Doing the formal research into my target market, competitors, etc will also help to give me a clearer picture as to how I can expand and compete in the marketplace.

How do you handle it when sales are slow?

There are always so many things to be done, that some days it’s a relief to not have orders to fill so that I can work on other necessary projects. But I don’t like having too many of those days in a row! Staying focused on the blessings I know are to come help me to keep a positive outlook and keep my energy up.

What are your goals for your business, short and long-term?

I have specific financial goals for this year, my first full calendar year in business. Marketing and networking will be a big priority for me the remainder of the year in order to reach those goals. I want to expand the number of wholesale accounts we have, and I want my private label division to continue growing as it has been since it opened in April. Long-term goals include expanding into international wholesale accounts (we already have a private label contract with a company overseas) as well as a brick and mortar storefront. I want the business to grow to where I can hire staff and create a positive, supportive work environment where people are happy to come to work and they know they’ll be encouraged and rewarded for their creativity, hard work and customer service. Most of all, I want the company to continue producing incredible, natural spa products that truly help the customer feel pampered.

How do you balance business with personal and family life?

This can be difficult at times, but I am blessed with an incredibly supportive husband who steps in and helps out whenever and however he can. My daughter is just 20 months old, so during the day, I really try to focus on her (although I’m guilty of checking my email while she’s playing by herself!) But as soon as she goes down for a nap, then I start working at full speed. After my husband is home and we have dinner and unwind as a family, then I work for a bit again. The majority of tasks get done late at night when everyone is asleep, but I’m working on changing this so that mom can get some sleep as well!

Do you have a website? Blog?

The website is www.vintagebodyspa.com. The blog is not currently active, some changes are being made behind the scenes and should be up by early fall.

What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?

Have fun! There was a reason you went into business for yourself – don’t get bogged down by the stresses, the ‘to-do’ list, etc – stay focused on the goals you’ve set for yourself and keep steadily working towards them – you will reach them!

Life on earth is short, so have fun and involve your family as much as you can – not only will it make your job easier by delegating tasks, but your family will take ownership and become invested in seeing it become a successful business, and you’ll create great memories along the way.

Surround yourself with other positive women entrepreneurs – not only for the networking aspects, but also to keep your spirits lifted during trying times. Pay it forward as much as you can….blessings WILL come back to you tenfold!

Fearless Friday – Tammy McCain, White Iris Designs June 20, 2008

Welcome to another edition of Fearless Friday!  I’m excited to present a very special treat – a Fearless Female Entrepreneur with TWO – count ‘em – TWO businesses!  She is a “floral designer by day – jewelry designer by night…..”  This is especially inspiring to me because I’ve had difficulty narrowing down which of my passions to focus on.  I want to do it all and that’s not the best plan when you’re just starting out.  It’s encouraging to see that it is very possible to be successful at more than one business, especially when they complement each other so well.  Tammy’s love for what she does and her confidence in where she is going shine through in her personality.  She’s always “up” and and “up for” having some fun with her great sense of humor.  Tammy is always there with words of encouragement and support for others.  Her creative gifts are evident in her unique jewelry designs and floral arrangements.  She exemplifies the wonderful words of advice that she offers at the end of the interview.  Enjoy this glimpse into her world and please join me in wishing her continued success.

And now, I give you Tammy of White Iris Designs.

Which came first, the jewelry or the flowers?

The flowers definitely came first. I have loved flowers since I was a little girl spending time on my maternal grandparents’ farm. She had all of the old fashioned standards, lilacs, wisteria, snowball bushes, hydrangeas, and peonies. I can also remember sneaking to the rose bushes that divided our yard from the neighbors and cutting roses off to take to my mom.  My first real memory of designing with flowers was when I was about 10 or 11; I entered something in the county fair and won Grand Champion. But my first real floral design job was my senior year of high school I got a job at a local florist. Funny thing, her daughter is the owner of  the other flower shop in the town where my shop is located.

The jewelry came about 3-4 years ago from my love of unique designs that I could wear and not go out and see the same pieces on other women. I am not one for mass produced pieces. I love art beads like lamp work glass, ceramic beads, forged metal etc. Using this kind of beads in my designs makes pieces that are not only one of a kind, but it is like wearing a little piece of art. My only problem is that I get attached to pieces and it is hard sometimes for me to sell them, because I know that I will never be able to get those beads just like them again.

So now I am know as the Floral Designer by Day ~ Jewelry Designer by Night

What inspired you to create your own business?

I had worked in other flower shops and felt like I was stifled creatively and really did not like the styles of designs that I was being forced to make. So almost 8 years ago I got asked if I might be interested in purchasing an existing little flower shop. It took me over 6 months to decide to go for it. I changed the name and the style of designs and it took off from there. After about a year in that location, I had out grown the space and I moved to a larger location. I am now in the process of trying to decide what my next move should be. On that, I will have to keep you posted as the details unfold.

How did you fund your business(es)?

I borrowed the money from a bank with my father-in-law as my cosigner. That part really worried me. I was so afraid that if it were to fail, my father-in-law would be held accountable for the loss and I would be humiliated and an embarrassment to my husband’s family name. Not only was my father-in –law the owner of our family farm, he was in public office and was a very well known sports official in and around our state. That was my great motivator to make it work.

How long did it take to feel that your business was a success?

Well since it was an already established business with a customer base, all I had to do was expand on that. People loved my designs from the start because they were unique. It just took off from there. I also offer gifts and some home accessories.

Are you able to devote all of your time to your passions?  i.e., do you have another job?

Well, no I do not have another job… but I do design jewelry also. That is something that I do in the evenings or at the shop when business is slow with the flowers. There is never enough time to do all that I want to do, because if it is artsy in any way I want to try it. I have been known to do other kinds of art, such as paint my own ceramic beads, I have dabbled in lamp work bead making and I also draw occasionally. I have done some pieces using soft pastels. But no, I fear I will never be able to do all that I would like that I am interested in.

Do you feel that you have enough time and energy to invest in both ends of your business?

No, there are not enough hours in my day or enough energy in my mind. I have too many things that I would like to do but I also have to just stop, I need my sleep. LOL

Did you have any reservations about starting more than one business?  Challenges?

Not really, because the whole jewelry end of my business really was never intended to become a “business”. That just happened as a result of my accumulating what is known as a “bead stash” in my living room, that my husband really wanted me to relocate. So 3 summers ago I took the “stash” to the flower shop and opened up a bead section there. We offer beads, beading supplies, findings and offer classes on occasion. We also do birthday beading parties for young girls.

How do you balance work and play?

Well if you know anything about most creative minds, they tend to get bored easily. At least I do. So I really have no problem balancing that. I love to kick back on the weekends and piddle in my flower and herb gardens. I even enjoy mowing the yard…ipod full of great music and a pretty tan kind of makes a chore fun for me.

Do you have a website?  Blog?

    Yes, my blog is whiteirisdesigns.blogspot.com
And my website, which I am hoping will be going live very soon is whiteirisdesigns.com
I will be showcasing mostly my jewelry on the website for now, but I am planning to add the flowers to it in the future. You can see galleries of both of my floral and jewelry designs there.

Do you spend more time building your businesses locally or online?

Wow, that is a great question, I would say that in the past mostly locally, but now with the addition of the website, I have been working on that a lot. So at this point in time I would have to say both.

What advice do you have for other women beginning a business?

Don’t ever let someone tell you that your dreams are impossible. I’ve always wanted to own my own flower shop, so when the opportunity presented itself, I thought to myself that if I didn’t do this, I would always wonder, what if. Could I have been successful?

Believe in your product or skill and never compromise your standards or style for anyone. In the back of my mind, I am always thinking, does what I am putting out there for the consumers represent ME? Is it something that I would purchase and am I proud of what it is? That is also all I ask of those who work for me…be your own creative person and as long as the designs you make look like they came from White Iris Designs, then I am happy. I will never stifle someone’s creativity like what happened to me. It will make you crazy.

And my last piece of advice is to be truly passionate about what you are doing. I thoroughly love what I do and I think it shows in both floral and jewelry designs.

Success Sunday – Author Diana S. Zimmerman June 8, 2008

I had the pleasure of meeting Diana at The Fairy Society some time ago and have been planning to ask her to participate in Fearless Friday to talk about publishing her book, Kandide And The Secret Of The Mists. The book is first in a series and the story takes us on an enchanting adventure through a magical world. It’s been received with excellent reviews. There’s a flurry of activity around the book as we speak and I thought that sooner would be better than later; hence, we have our first Success Sunday! Diana’s currently out of town and spending her weekend conducting book signings, so the interview is brief but she’s provided her amazing bio. Here’s her inspiring story.

Like her fantasy adventure novels, Diana’s role in the performing arts as well as the business world transcends the ordinary. She has been a performer, entrepreneur and businesswoman since the age of eight when she invested all of her resources into a small magic trick. With a total capital outlay of 47 cents, she parlayed her investment into a spectacular 25-year stage and television career as the “World’s Foremost Lady Magician.” Leaving home at the age of 18, she filled her car with magic tricks, costumes, and a whole lot of ambition, and headed to Los Angeles with $45.00 to her name. “Even back then,” she explains, “that wasn’t very much money. But when you grow up living on the wrong side of the tracks, what have got to lose?” She wasn’t always sure where her next meal would come from and nothing mattered except pursuing her dream of becoming a top performer. Doing magic to support herself (and pay for college), the novelty of a women magician, along with her remarkable creativity and talent, eventually catapulted her into the limelight. She choreographed magic illusions for Lance Burton and David Copperfield, among others and remains a highly respected lecturer, writer, and teacher in this field, sponsoring the Junior Magicians’ Club—a youth group she founded in 1974 with the help of legendary actor, Cary Grant—at Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle.

Diana has hosted her own television show and created CMS Communications International, named by Successful Meetings Magazine as one of the “Top 50 Event Companies” for an unprecedented seven years straight. She sits on three Boards including the prestigious Academy of Magical Arts Educational Foundation, Inc., was an Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” finalist, and 2008 nominee for the Los Angeles Business Journal “Women Making a Difference” award.

What got you interested in writing?

I’ve written for magazines for about six years, but I was inspired to begin writing Kandide’s stories by a painting that I bought from my illustrator, an amazing Faery artist named Maxine Gadd.

Who has supported and encouraged you?

Almost everyone. My friends are soooo supportive!

What was the first experience that made you feel you were really a writer?

Seeing my manuscript in book form from the publisher.

How long have you been writing professionally?

Six years. I also write for a JQ international, a haute couture jewelry trade magazine.

How long did the creative process take?

Five years for all 3 books.

Tell us about the submission and publishing process.

Rejection, Rejection, Rejection. Not as many as JK Rowlings – she got 125! But finally a publisher/distributor named Greenleaf BookGroup picked it up.

    Do you have a website?

    Yes: http://www.kandide.com/

What advice would you give to other writers?

NEVER, EVER give up, and hire a great copy editor!

So there you have it, another Fearless Diva with the tenacity to overcome circumstances and make her dreams come true!

Kandide And The Secret Of The Mists is currently #4 at Amazon.com. If the book sells 500 copies within a three day period, it will catapult to #1 on the Best Seller List! Purchase your copy today HERE

Carla Spurgeon – Jafra District Manager1

JAFRA FREE SHIPPING OFFER ENDS SUNDAY!

    Fearless Friday-Carla Spurgeon, Jafra District Manager1 June 6, 2008

Welcome to the fifth edition of Fearless Friday! I have been looking forward to interviewing Carla because she is my District Manager! I met Carla at Divapreneur. I had used Jafra about thirty years ago when my skin was having serious problems. The whole story is in my post Why I Chose Jafra. I did not know until we did this interview that this is exactly how Carla found Jafra! I haven’t seen the product much in my area, and that’s a good thing! My team will not have to deal with market saturation. The number one thing that I love about companies like Jafra and Mary Kay is their focus on helping other women. I love Mary Kay Ash’s story and have read her book and seen a few movies. She did so much to help women start their own businesses. Jafra continues to operate the same way. Carla amazes me every day. She has provided everything that I could possibly need to be successful. She is always available and she is always supportive. She’s teaching me how to manage my team and I’m looking forward to helping other women be successful. So, now I’ll stop talking your ear off (I can’t help it, I love my product and opportunity!) and let Carla take over.

How did you get started in Jafra?

I had bad skin. BAD. I was making zippo money doing mission work, newlywed, and very PLAIN JANE. My skin was positively gray in color from being clogged and broken out. I knew someone that was with AB so I wrote to them. I was told to look into CDE so I went to one of their opportunity booths….they took one look at me and after a couple questions about how much money I was willing to invest…they politely and coldly informed me that I did NOT fit their profile. That afternoon I got my rejection letter from AB, I didn’t fit their profile either.

So when I was asked to be a guest for the Jafra party that same evening I just laughed and said, why not? I loved the product and the consultant told me repeatedly that I could do this. I bought a $20 holiday travel set that night and I joined 2 weeks later when I had the money for my case! The rest is history.

    What, exactly, is Jafra?

Jafra Cosmetics is a 52 yr old direct sales company with a product line that works! Our opportunity is one of the best in the industry. Our focus is on sales and recruiting. We do not require or even encourage inventory. There is no quota to fill and consultants are encouraged to do sales via group/home parties as well as one-on-one demonstrations. We now offer a product line of over 400 products from our famous Royal Jelly skin care to family and baby care.

How long have you been a Jafra Consultant?

    About 27 years.

    What motivated you to succeed?

The desire to set my own schedule and to travel whenever possible.

What was your first big accomplishment?

I earned our National trip to New Orleans and was able to take my mother on the trip of her dreams at no cost to her. My mother saw a gift that was perfect for my father. She didn’t have the money for it and I didn’t want to insult her by paying for it outright so I figured I’d just get one for her later. Not so. Jafra took us all to a great New Orleans river boat ride and while we were gone, they left gifts in our room. Not only did mom get the exact item she wanted for dad – I got one too! NO ONE from Jafra knew that this was the desire of her heart and that she stood there in the hotel room crying over the joy of it!

And diamonds!…at one time, I had more Diamonds from Jafra than from my own husband. He has since made up for it! I’ve also won several national titles with Jafra including National Sales and Sponsoring. I’m a lifetime and charter member of the DSWA (Direct Selling Women’s Alliance) and am one of the co-authors of the DSWA book “Build It Big.” I was the only Jafra consultant featured in that book. Being an author was another one of my dreams that came true because of Jafra! Geez…you would think I was someone special? NOT! I’m just a Very BLESSED person that found the right company the first time!
Have you become financially independent through Jafra, or do you have to maintain another source of income?

How about a little of both? I’ve been able to continue to travel with my family even while working one day a week at a local church office. This gives me a chance to keep in touch with the business world while enjoying a relaxed schedule.

Would you mind sharing an estimate of the annual salary you earn from Jafra?

I’ve been in the 5 figures range in the past and chose to take a step back when I needed time off for health reasons. No shame in that.

    What makes a successful team?

What makes a successful team? Team work. Everyone is important and there are no egos involved in where the training comes from.

    Do you have a website?

    Yes, http://www.myjafra.com/cspurgeon

How do you balance life and work?

With a calendar and well used white board on my refrigerator!

What advice do you have for other women in business, especially those in direct sales and multi-level marketing? Any words of wisdom for getting that party or closing a sale or recruitment?

Get involved with local networking opportunities so that your name and face become associated with your product line. Join a group such as the DSWA so you have an ongoing educational resource at your finger tips. You can find them by checking the newspaper, searching the internet or checking with your local chamber of commerce. If one doesn’t exist, start one!

Remember, we have the famous, amazing Royal Jelly. A few weeks ago, our hospice did an event at the local Senior Center and I gave hand facials. The ladies were so impressed with what just two drops of this did on their 70, 80 and even 90 year old hands that they dragged their husbands over to my table!

Hurry – offer expires Sunday – and thanks so much for being my Fearless Friends!

    Hugs,
    Parthena

Inquiring minds want to know, Parthena:

Have you ever felt so down you wondered whether or not you’d bounce back?

Were you later surprised by how quickly you did bounce back?

And then were you surprised by how far you went?

Did you promise you’d never forget how amazing that was?

    We did.

    In awe,
    The Universe

Notes From The Universe is a seemingly small thing that I’m immensely grateful for every day. Not only is it there when I need writing inspiration, LOL, but the author, Mike Dooley, speaks to my heart as gently as a brick hitting me over the head. I want to marry that man. Jack Canfield runs a close second, especially in regard to this particular thought. I have several of his CD’s and he shares growing up as one of my neighbors at Dysfunction Junction and while he didn’t end up homeless, he did have a very low income prior to his success. Both authors are realistic about life’s terms and are never judgmental about why we have not yet achieved success, unlike one of my previous heroes and gurus who didn’t start off that way but who I would like to smack now. He shall remain unnamed. His work was helpful for a while and I’ll still recommend it but his newer stuff is just rewrites of his old stuff with a high horse attitude.

Back to the topic at hand, this really woke me up this morning. I have been through several dark tiimes in my life where it all seemed hopeless and I did bounce back. It gets harder as one gets older. The past few years have been the hardest. It’s complicated and I won’t go into it here, but these feelings were compounded by a society and medical profession that prescribes anti-depressants rather than get at the cause of the physical, especially in the case of syndromed like fibromyalgia. Those living with fibro are treated as simply neurotic, lazy women and are given drugs to make them shut up. Talk to anyone living with fibro and while many will say that they can’t live without their anti-depressants, they’ll also tell you that they’re still hurting. I can share with you that I honestly believe and have proven to myself that if I had been on those drugs these past six months, I would not be here to write to you today. But that’s a Squidoo lens…..

This Note reminded me that I am again, bouncing back and that yes indeed, I have forgotten about all the other times. I’ve been down to nothing with mouths to feed, sold or gave it all away and ended up with twice as much. I’ve never really done without anything; not just the basics, but even luxuries like cable tv, internet and cigarettes. I’ve never starved or gone without clothes on my back – and neither have my kids or my animals.

I’ve been in places where I’ve totally lost trust in people and have shaken my fist and cussed out God and The Universe. Most recently, I demanded that all these hunky dorey promises be proven to me because frankly, it all seemed like the offer of prozac, just to keep me addicted to some sort of false hope to get through this thing called life. I’ve accused God of being a cruel puppetmaster, enjoying the drama for its own amusement.

And again, I got my answer, immediately. Places opened up and people showed up who, for the first time it seems, actually DID something in my life. One of my issues has been trust – people who professed to be friends or “love” me ran like hell when needed. Not this time.

And this time I know for certain that I will not forget. It’s frustrating that it seems that I will never have enough in material goods to repay them or have enough words to thank them. All I can do is to pay it forward and always be there for these people when they need me.

One of the most immediate, but definitely not the only, things I can do is to strive toward my goals in Jafra. My Manager has done so much for me. She has provided everything I could possibly need to be successful. I can’t wait until I can do the same for my team! I am more focused on finding women who have the motivation and skills – especially unbenownst to them – to be successful to take advantage of this opportunity than I am on selling this quality, high performance product. This is something that excites me every day and makes it worth getting out into the world for, even at a $14 per day trip to the office!

I intend to make Manager in 60 days. There, I’ve said it and put it out there into the world and cyberspace. I have to do it now, don’t I?

And, did you really once celebrate by dancing on a tabletop, Parthena, to Barry Manilow?

Oh,  probably sometime during the seventies, but I don’t remember – and it was more like Jimi Hendrix or ZZ Top or Deborah Harry, I’m sure. But I did celebrate my 51st birthday by dancing with my bellydance troupe at a public performance, fibromyalgia, permanent nerve damage, paralysis and all. There was also that infected belly button piercing…….and someone who showed up to heal it and offer to help me file a lawsuit……

Did I mention that I’m grateful?  And to those hinted at above, you know who you are.

What have you bounced back from lately?

Amazing book, a collection of the free Notes From The Universe daily e-mails from www.Tut.com.
